BIODATA!

IMG_3634I am currently a third year Life Sciences undergraduate from the National University of Singapore (NUS), majoring in Biology. My interest in Biology was sparked off when I was just a young boy. My aunt, a principal investigator in A*Star would often bring me to her laboratory and as a young kid, I got all fascinated and intrigued with what was going on in the laboratory. On some occasions, she would ask me “help out” with her experiments and that was when I became infatuated with science especially biology. Over time, the interest level grew and not only did I excelled well in this subject in school, I became motivated to further my studies relating to biology. Thus, with my strong interest and educational background in biology, I aspire to be a researcher to learn and continue in the conservation efforts of the rich biodiversity found in Singapore.

Aside from my studies, I also had the opportunity to take up several part-time jobs such as an events coordinator for some high-profile events like the Singapore Biennale and the Singapore River Festival. In addition, I also worked as an Assistant Stage Manager and even had the privilege to be part of the cast for the local production called “The Swordfish, Then The Concubine.” Through these working experiences, I have accumulated many invaluable real-life experience and also gathered the necessary skills and knowledge about how production work is done, how to work cohesively as a group to ensure everything runs smoothly and also to provide me with insights to another field that is not related to science. Working with many individuals allowed me to network and get to know people from all walks of life. This has greatly enhanced my interpersonal skills and more importantly, I learnt how to better manage my time and organise resources efficiently.

On the personal front, I am the type of guy who enjoys outdoor activities such as playing football, tennis and swimming. I play football every weekend, as I am currently a player in the football team participating in an amateur league. My football team comprises of my friends from the Secondary School and playing together as a team allows us to bond and maintain regular contact with each other. From the matches that we have played together, I recognize that only with effective communication and good teamwork, then we can achieve the desired outcome of winning a match.

Besides sports, I also have the musical side of me and I was a saxophone player in my school’s concert band of which the band has won many gold awards during Singapore Youth Festivals and overseas band competition. And on a few occasions, I’ve also returned to play with my school’s alumni band (Saints Alumni Band) for several public performances. Apart from that, I also like to unwind by watching good movies and indulge in delicious food found in various parts of Singapore.

I hope that my interests, education and work experiences will enable me to be sufficiently prepared for my future career so that I can make significant contributions to the study and conservation of the rich diversity in Singapore.

    Wow brother,

I never knew that you are so cool. Anyway, you do certainly have the Saints personality. No wonder, once a saints, always a saints.

I like the way you describe your love and passion for biology and conservation efforts. Indeed, in such a busy and vibrant society like Singapore, people tend to become more self-centred and forget about conservation. Hope you will be able to achieve your aims yeah.

Your experience as a stage manager has defintely served you well. I was part of my emsemble in my hall production before. Hence, I can fully understand the difficulties and challenges one has to face. Nonetheless, the organisational and interpersonal skills that you can learn from it is invaluable.

Have fun in your weekend soccer and carry on pursuing your passion. The personal statement has cetainly been sincere and honest. Have a great week ahead.

    Cheers.

Wow, didn’t know you had so many talents :) Just wanted to say that it’s great that you found your passion at such a young age, for me I didn’t know what I wanted to do till I entered university. Also, it is great to see that everything you mentioned has tied together nicely regarding being a teamplayer and about interpersonal skills. Well done, the right amount of personal-ness, although may be a tad too long.

Wish you all the best for your future!
